Sesame Street
Wednesday, November 4th, 2009I just found out Sesame Street is celebrating its 40th birthday today!

When I was a kid we didn’t have a television until I was about 10 years old but we could pick up the CBC channel on our radio so I would lay stomach down on the carpet in the living room with my crayons and draw for hours while listening to Sesame Street on the radio. On the lucky occasion I would go over to my grandma’s house and get to watch the actual show on the television but I never felt like I was missing out. It was a really special feeling being able to listen and imagine what was going on in my head and create my own scenarios instead of having it there right in front of me.
So now I’m going to take a trip down memory lane and revisit some of my favourite Sesame Street characters & moments.
Grover
Grover was a total spazz but he meant well and he had a good heart, he just could never catch a break. My most memorable skits were the ones where Grover was a waiter and he keeps screwing up his one & only customer’s order time and time again, and yet the guy keeps coming back and seems to be very patient with him haha.
Ernie
There was something about Ernie that I just loved. His funny little voice, the way he was so chill and laid back about everything whereas Bert would get so uptight over everything.
Who can forget that cute little kid John John, I’m pretty sure at the time I just thought he was another kid but now that I look back and watch, how funny is this little kid!?
Who can forget this catchy number from The Pointer Sisters? It would be stuck in my head for days.
Now I have no idea what Sesame Street has been up to for the last 20 years but I just stumbled across this parody of Mad Men (one of my favourite tv shows right now) and its obviously targeted towards the parents who watch the show with their children but I think it’s genius and I love it!
Happy 40th Sesame Street!! You made my childhood that much better!
